Week 16/Day 1: Trust and Obey

Memory Verse

“Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” —Jesus

Luke 11:28

Spiritual Discipline: Don’t Speed!

At the heart of obedience is submission to authority. God’s Word tells us all authority is set in place by Him, so we are to come under all authority as if we were obeying God Himself.

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. Romans 13:1-2

For the next week, don’t drive over the speed limit. Trust and obey the governing authority which set these laws.

Note whether it’s difficult or easy for you to obey, then consider why.

Day 1

Obedience has been a part of our relationship with God from the beginning.

Read Genesis 2:15-17

What was the one rule man was called to obey? Why?

Read: Genesis 3:1-7

How did the serpent approach Eve in the garden? What was the effect of the serpent’s questions?

Eve began to question God’s trustworthiness.

Who did Eve ultimately trust and obey in this scenario?

When have the questions of the world caused you to doubt the trustworthiness of God? What was the effect in your life?

Adam and Eve experienced shame as a result of doubting God. Have you?

Spend time with God in confession and repentance.
