Week 20/Day 3: Obedience-An Act of Love

Display the memory verse for this week in a conspicuous place. On a notecard on the refrigerator. Write it on your bathroom mirror with a dry erase marker. You know where you’ll see it.

And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.

2 John 6 NIV

Have you had an opportunity to hug Jesus this week?

Day 3

Read Matthew 22:36-40

Jesus boiled down all the law and the teachings of the prophets to two things: Love God. Love others.

Sometimes we make obedience way more complicated than it is. Examine the things you currently do in the name of obedience to God. Categorize each one as Loving God or Loving Others.

Do you have anything left over? Something that doesn’t fit in either category? What should you do with it?

We can fill our life with things that “look” like obedience, but they actually make us less loving. Bring these extra things to God in prayer. Ask Him why you are doing them. Consider letting them go in the name of love.
