It’s Time for a Summer Soak

We discussed it several times.

What should we do in the summer? Do we continue to meet and teach?

Almost one year ago we stepped out in faith… decided to teach what God placed on our hearts many years ago. Sister Talk: Faith was birthed in the store front of our small downtown shop with part one of Resuscitate Your Faith. Believe, Pray, Trust, Obey, and Love were the faith steps we studied. We continued in the fall Going Deeper into those steps. And just today the sister and I marveled at how it happened. How God provided time and words and others to share the journey with us.

All in all we’ve spent an intense season (over thirty weeks) of writing, sharing, and learning about faith. We thought we would take a break, an entire summer, but God has another plan and we are excited to invite you along for the journey: Summer Soak.

Summer Soak begins Tuesday, June 6th. If you find yourself near us and available, we will meet 12:00 noon at Picture This! We’ll gather together on Tuesdays throughout the summer to soak up what God has taught us… is teaching us.

If you can’t join us in person, you can follow along here. Summer Soak study guides will be available weekly. We encourage you to gather some sisters to meet with you. Walk alongside you as you help one another grow in faith and as disciples of Jesus.

The first half of the study on faith set us firmly on love. Loving God and loving others. Learning to walk in love as He defines it, is what we’ll be soaking up through the summer months. Our focus: 1Corinthians 13:4-8.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant  or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;  it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.  Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

The summer sessions will be unique. No weekly teaching. No daily homework. Each week you will receive a short study page complete with Scripture memory and a spiritual discipline to practice. These will post each Wednesday.

Our times gathered with sisters will be opportunities to share how God is growing and working out love in our lives. We’ll spend our time learning from one another.

Stacy says:

Can there still be more? After almost an entire year thinking about how faith grows love for God… love for others? The simple answer… Yes, there is infinitely more. I’m very excited about this leg of the journey. And as I considered it this morning Jesus’ words came to mind.

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20

Discipleship doesn’t end with baptism. It’s only the beginning. And disciples aren’t made in a moment they are made in a lifetime. A lifetime of teaching, living, and obeying. Community grows us to a point where we teach others.

We are all called to go… make disciples… teach. We’ve spent many months learning and growing. Let’s take some time to teach each other. Sharing our journeys encourages us to keep going. This is more than Bible study, it’s a way of life!

  1. I am excited! I can come most Tuesdays this summer……except the first meeting as I will be in Ohio with my Mother. Jen and Alina are flying up with me, so pray for us all. (Alina is really excited….she has ever flown before!)
