Freedom to Choose
The choices of others, those we know and don’t know, those we love and don’t like, can affect our lives in both positive and negative ways.
Read the Reflection Scripture. What has the psalmist chosen?
What does he know about God?
Look up the definition of lot.
Do you trust God’s sovereignty enough to respect those around you to exercise their freedom to choose?
How does the psalmist feel about his lot in life?
Consider what you have, where you are in life right now. Can you accept it as the lot He has chosen for you? Do you trust Him to make it a beautiful inheritance? Explain.
Read Genesis 13:2-12
Abram, Lot’s uncle, followed God’s call to leave his homeland and go to a place he didn’t know taking his nephew with him.
What caused the discord between Abram and Lot?
What was Abram’s solution for keeping peace?
What did Lot choose?
Even though Abram was older and the father figure in Lot’s life, he blessed Lot with the freedom to choose which land to take.
What did Abram do after Lot left?
Abram settled in the land of Canaan. Lot chose the fertile well-watered valley, which looked more profitable, but Abram respected Lot’s choice and was content with what he had.
The last time you let someone choose first, did you respect the other’s choice? Were you content and settled? Why or why not?
