Encourage: Come Alongside
Read the Reflection Scripture out loud or write it down. Maybe even do it twice… or three times… let it sink into your heart.
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Philippians 2:4 ESV
Spend some time thinking about your journey. Who has come to walk with you for a season or maybe the entire time? What did their presence do for you? How did it encourage you to keep going?
When you felt discouraged, what did the one alongside you do to help you continue?
God in His infinite wisdom knows exactly what each of us needs as we journey. He often uses the gifts and abilities we have to encourage others along the way. And His intricate plan places us in the exact place, at the perfect time, to come alongside another.
Sometimes His choice is not one we would make. A relationship begins to form, a coming alongside, and we are not aware of His purpose. It might even cause discomfort or a shying away.
Consider someone you’ve felt drawn to come alongside. How did the relationship begin? Was there something about it that gave you reason to pause? To turn away?
What has God given you that might encourage this person on their journey? How might you come alongside them?
What is He saying to you in His Word?
