Hope: The Heart of Faith
Bolster your faith and reinforce your hope by praising God as Trustworthy in all He does.
Sovereign Lord, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.
2Samuel 7:28 NIV
Wrestling with Hope
Breathe in… breathe out…
Quiet the noise of the world around you.
Whisper, hum, sing, or meditate on the hymn:
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
–Edward Mote (1797-1874)
The Beatitudes are Jesus’s words of hope to the broken crowd gathered before Him:
Mourners wondering if they would ever stop crying. Peacemakers feeling they would never know peace. Those hungry for righteousness longing for the satisfaction of justice. The poor in spirit at a loss, powerless in the world.
Jesus knew where they were, the very places they surrendered all hope. He saw the unseen in each face, and spoke with confident assurance. He turned their hopeless upside-down.
What about you? What hopeless place do you find yourself? What have you given up on in this world? What great desire feels unfulfilled?
Listen as He speaks. What words do you hear?
Write the hope He gives in the form of a beatitude.
