Unfolding Enough: Right Relationship

Read Judges 16:1-20

Scripture does not reveal Samson’s intimate relationship with God. We don’t see him pray or cry out to God. Yet Samson is following the laws of one who has taken the Nazarite vow. He has not cut his hair, nor does he drink wine or spirits.

Read Judges 16:17

What does Samson’s explanation to Delilah reveal about his relationship with God?

Samson had a weakness when it came to beautiful women. He often allowed his desire to mask the reality of his circumstances. Yet God chose Samson. God set Samson apart. And God would use him to deliver the Israelites from the Philistines.

In his desire to please Delilah it seems all is lost. He shared the secret of his strength without realizing the greater consequence. With the cutting of his hair “the Lord left him.”

How did Samson’s disobedience affect his relationship with God?

How do you think it might have affected the community he lived in? His parents? The people he was supposed to deliver?

It’s true sin does impact our relationship with God and others. Failure is a part of life. There will always be times we’ll lose our temper, snap with impatience, or refuse to move when God calls.

This doesn’t change the fact God chose you, God set you apart, and God will continue to work in your life.

Don’t forget to practice Examen today.
