As we journey through Colossians, we will share our thoughts with you here. One of the sisters is inspired in the middle of week 1.
We are thankful for each of you.
We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you. For we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all the saints, because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven…”
Colossians 1:3-5a (emphasis added)
The final attribute listed is the one from which the others stem, and it is hope. Perhaps we would think that faith is the root. But Paul shows us a beautiful picture of hope as the center, and from there, our faith and Christian love flow.Colossians: Rooted in Him, Week 1/Day 3 (p.16)
This quote reminds me of the little white church I pass going to town from the place I live now. Not long ago as I drove along all stirred up about my current circumstances, I glanced at the church’s sign. You know the kind where someone climbed a ladder and physically placed each letter in its rightful place.
All that thinking came to a sudden halt. Those four words quickly put into perspective and brought clarity to my churning mind. As more thoughts came I responded, “The King is coming. The King is coming. The King is coming!”
Now each time I head to work or home I find myself looking for the sign. With expectation I top the hill for a first glimpse at those four words. I smile as I read them aloud when I drive by.
The King is coming!
This sisters, is the gospel truth. This is the hope that undergirds our faith and brings perspective to our daily lives. It’s the truest of statements we will ever proclaim.
Yes… the King is coming!
